Truth is I'm nervous about applying for my masters.
I'm nervous about moving. I'm nervous about not knowing where I'm going to be in a year .
It doesn't mean that I don't want to take my masters, or move to a new and exciting city.
I'm just nervous, and that's ok.

Plaid Scarf

Ever since the August Totokaelo fall products went up I have been dying for a nice plaid scarf to wear to death. Unfortunately, my student budget could not handle the price of their scarfs so I had to fend for myself.

Low and behold, while at Fabricland I stumbled across this perfect plaid wool.
At first I was going to make it into a dress, but then inspiration struck!
Why not a scarf?!

I don't mention it very often on this blog that I am a student. To be honest, it is a little strange because university has been such a big part of my life now that I'm in my last year as an undergrad. For the most part I use this blog as an outlet for all my interests that are not related to what I study. I am in fact a history major with a French minor, who loves to pursue fashion and craft related hobbies in her spare time. It is a rare occurrence when all those interests are combined.
So you'll understand my excitement when I was recommend to read Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution by a lovely professor of mine. It is the history of Marie Antoinette and her experiences as the last Queen of France described entirely by her love of clothing and fashion. It is the most compelling and sympathetic tale of Marie Antoinette that I have ever read. It portrays Marie Antoinette as a smart, strong woman who used her clothing to gain power, and it the end was targeted because of her sartorial extravagances. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to history lovers and fashion lovers alike.

The Black Apple

I realize that I must have been living in a bubble, because I am wondering why it took me so long to find The Black Apple etsy shoppe. I think I would like an entire wall filled with her girly, nature-filled prints. Also, she has an art blog, and a fashion blog. Oh, and she was on Martha...

The Anabela Scarf

While these days it can be cheaper to buy a scarf than to make one, there's still nothing like one that is homemade. Inspired by Anabela's love of lace, Jenny's post filled with textured knits, and most of all by the need for bulky warmth during Canadian winters!
This scarf has a lot of texture and as a bonus it is really simple to knit.
Simply, down the center is a forward cable on a six row repeat surrounded by seed stitch.

You will need:
10mm Straight Knitting Needles
2 Balls of Lion Brand Thick and Quick Wool
or other bulky yarn
Cable needle

Pattern:
Cable pattern between **
K=knit
P=purl
Pm=place marker. This will divide your cable stitches from the seed pattern stitches.
C4F=cable four forward.
Watch the knittinghelp.com video for a how-to. Don't be afraid, it is so easy if you can knit!
Cast on 18 stitches.
Row 1: K1, P1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, pm, *k4*, pm, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1.
Row 2: Pattern outside the asterisks stays the same for all rows.
k1, p1 six times then k1. cable pattern. k1, p1 six times then k1.
*P4*
Row 3: *C4F*
Row 4: *P4*
Row 5: *K4*
Row 6: *P4*
Repeat pattern until scarf reaches desired length.
Mine is just over six feet.

Bonus: It's so bulky it can be folded into a makeshift pillow. :)
